What You’ll Need
- 5 dice

How to Play
- Each player takes a turn rolling the dice up to three times, trying to score points in various categories.
- On your first roll, roll all five dice. After each roll, you can choose to keep any number of dice and re-roll the rest, aiming to create scoring combinations.
- After your third roll (or earlier if you’re satisfied with your dice), choose a category on the scorecard to score your points. If the dice don’t fit any category, you must choose a category to score zero points.
- The game continues until all players have filled in their scorecards.
How to Win: The player with the highest total score at the end of the game wins! Points are earned by rolling certain combinations, such as three of a kind, four of a kind, a full house, or a straight.
The coveted “Yahtzee” is achieved by rolling five of the same number, earning a massive 50 points.
Tips to Play
- Aim for the bonus: If you score 63 or more points in the upper section of the scorecard, you’ll earn a 35-point bonus. Prioritize these categories early on.
- Don’t be afraid to score zero: Sometimes, it’s better to score zero in a difficult category than to waste high-scoring dice on a low-point category.
- Keep an eye on your opponents: Pay attention to which categories they’re filling up. You might need to adjust your strategy to block them or compete for specific categories.
- Embrace the luck: While there’s strategy involved, Yahtzee is ultimately a game of chance. Enjoy the thrills and spills of every roll!

When did Yahtzee come out?
Believe it or not, the Yahtzee we know and love isn’t that ancient! It was actually a Canadian couple, way back in 1956, who copyrighted the version we play today. They must have been inspired by older dice games, but they put their own spin on it.
