How to Play Slapjack Card Game

What You’ll Need

  • A standard deck of 52 playing cards
  • 2-8 players ready to unleash their inner card ninjas!
  • A flat surface for card-slapping action (be gentle on the table!)

Objective

The goal of Slapjack is to be the first player to slap the discard pile when a Jack is revealed. By doing so, you claim all the cards that have been played since the last Jack.

Gameplay

  1. Deal the Deck: Deal all the cards face down to the players, one at a time. How many cards each player gets doesn’t matter – the more the merrier (and the faster the game)!
  2. The Race Begins: The player to the dealer’s left starts the action by flipping the top card of their deck face-up in the center of the playing area.
  3. Watch Like a Hawk: Each player discards a card from their deck face-up on top of the previous card, one at a time and moving clockwise. Everyone should be keeping a sharp eye on the growing pile.
  4. The Slap Heard ‘Round the Table: If a Jack is revealed, the first player to SLAP the discard pile wins the entire pile of played cards! They take those cards, shuffle them into their deck, and let out a triumphant yell (optional, but highly encouraged).
  5. False Alarms? There’s a Penalty! Slapped the pile for a non-Jack? Uh oh! That player must forfeit a card from their hand and place it face-down on the bottom of the discard pile. There goes their lead!
  6. Keep Slapping! After a Jack is claimed, or a player suffers a penalty slap, the discard pile is cleared, and the next player in line flips over the top card of their deck, and the race to slap resumes!

Winning the Slapjack Card Game Showdown!

The game continues until one player manages to deplete their entire deck. This card-slapping champion is the victor, earning eternal bragging rights and the title of Slapjack master!

Bonus Tip: Don’t get too focused on just the Jacks! Keep an eye on the cards other players are discarding – you might be able to predict when the next Jack will appear and prepare your slapping hand accordingly.
